State Of The World's Nursing 2025: Key Themes And Insights
"The World Health Organisation's State of the World's Nursing 2025 report (WHO, ICN et al.) provides a comprehensive, up-to-date analysis of the global nursing workforce. It emphasises five key domains: education, employment/jobs, leadership, service delivery, and emerging issues such as workforce wellbeing, migration, technology and climate change. These themes are interlinked with the strategic priorities of nursing/midwifery and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The report introduces new indicators (e.g. education capacity, advanced practice nursing, wages) and outlines policy priorities for 2026–2030. It calls on governments, educators, employers and nurses to use this evidence to strengthen the profession and advance UHC."
📚 Interesting Finds And What We're Reading
(Books, papers, or must-read links that inspired us recently)
We keep an eye out for the most interesting stories, ideas, research, reports and sometimes, events in the world of healthcare—leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, wellbeing, research, science and more.

Medsaf, A Nigerian Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Solution, Has Shut Down After Raising $2 million
"Medsaf, a Nigerian end to end pharmaceutical supply chain optimisation platform, for hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers, has shut down operations. The closure was confirmed in an email to investors from CEO Vivian Nwakah, who cited a failed acquisition attempt, mounting debts, and significant unpaid receivables from hospitals as key reasons for the decision. "We have made the decision to close Medsaf effective immediately," Nwakah wrote."
Meet 7 Innovators Transforming Pharmacy Care in Africa
"In many African communities, the local pharmacy is the first—and sometimes only—place individuals go to access care. By some estimates, pharmacies provide as much as 70% of initial healthcare visits. This is especially important in rural and other underserved areas where clinics and other healthcare facilities are few and far between. As a key pillar of the healthcare ecosystem in Africa, pharmacies already play a vital role in bridging critical access gaps – not to mention creating important local jobs. But pharmacies have the potential to be utilised further."
Closing the Data Gap: How Innovators Are Helping Reimagine Malaria Care
"In 2023, there was an estimated 263 million new cases of malaria and 597,000 deaths globally, 95% of which were in Africa. Unfortunately, many malaria-endemic countries still lack the real-time data infrastructure required to collect, store, analyse, and share timely, accurate information on cases, vector populations, treatment availability, and intervention coverage. Instead, health systems have often relied on paper-based reporting and infrequent surveys – many of which have lost their donor funding. With rising threats like drug resistance and climate-driven transmission shifts, sustainable approaches to collecting more real-time data can become a frontline tool in the response."
FDA Clears First Blood Test Used in Diagnosing Alzheimer's Disease
"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today cleared for marketing the first in vitro diagnostic device that tests blood to aid in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease. The Lumipulse G pTau217/ß-Amyloid 1-42 Plasma Ratio is for the early detection of amyloid plaques associated with Alzheimer's disease in adult patients, aged 55 years and older, exhibiting signs and symptoms of the disease."

The Director-General's Award for Global Health, established in 2019, was conferred during the High-Level segment on Tuesday, 20 May, at the Seventy-eighth World Health Assembly and this year included an honorary lifetime achievement award to each recipient."
