State Of The World's Nursing 2025: Key Themes And Insights
"The World Health Organisation's State of the World's Nursing 2025 report (WHO, ICN et al.) provides a comprehensive, up-to-date analysis of the global nursing workforce. It emphasises five key domains: education, employment/jobs, leadership, service delivery, and emerging issues such as workforce well-being, migration, technology and climate change. These themes are interlinked with the strategic priorities of nursing/midwifery and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The report introduces new indicators (e.g. education capacity, advanced practice nursing, wages) and outlines policy priorities for 2026–2030. It calls on governments, educators, employers and nurses to use this evidence to strengthen the profession and advance UHC."
Foundation For Medication Safety (NDDCCN) Presents Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Conference 2025
"Join the Foundation For Medication Safety for the maiden edition of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Conference 2025! Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most pressing global health challenges of our time. The misuse and overuse of antibiotics have led to the emergence of resistant microbes, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death."
Health Anxiety: When You're Crippled By Worry Over A "Health Issue" That Might Not Even Exist
"It's a common human experience to feel a fleeting worry about our health. A minor ache or sudden fatigue can sometimes trigger a passing thought of "what if?" But for some, this natural concern spirals into something far more consuming—health anxiety. This isn't simply being a "worrier"; it's a persistent and often debilitating preoccupation with one's health, characterised by an intense fear of having or developing a serious illness, often despite medical reassurance. At its core, health anxiety involves a fundamental misinterpretation of bodily sensations. What might be a normal headache is perceived as a sign of a brain tumour; a benign stomach rumble is perceived as evidence of a severe gastrointestinal disease."
Beyond The White Coat: Exploring Non-Clinical Career Paths For Medical Doctors
"When most people think of medicine, they picture hospital wards, scrubs, and stethoscopes. But today, more doctors are trading the traditional clinical route for paths that offer broader impact, personal fulfilment, and fresh innovation. At a time of high burnout and a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, one truth is becoming clear: The traditional route is no longer the only route. Whether you're a medical student, early-career doctor, or seasoned practitioner wondering, "What's next?" This post is for you."

MeMed BV: A Game-Changer In Infection Diagnosis
In the high-stakes environment of emergency and urgent care, swiftly distinguishing between bacterial and viral infections is crucial. Enter MeMed BV—a groundbreaking diagnostic tool that leverages the body's immune response to deliver accurate results in just 15 minutes.
By analysing three key immune proteins—TRAIL, IP-10, and CRP—MeMed BV provides a clear score indicating the likelihood of a bacterial or viral infection. This rapid, host-response approach circumvents the limitations of traditional diagnostics, which often rely on direct pathogen detection and can be time-consuming or inconclusive, especially when infection sites are inaccessible or pathogens are undetectable.
Clinical studies underscore MeMed BV's efficacy. In one study, the test demonstrated a sensitivity of 94% and specificity of 88% in identifying bacterial infections in pediatric patients. Moreover, real-world applications have shown that MeMed BV can significantly influence clinical decisions, reducing unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions and aiding in appropriate patient referrals. With FDA clearance for both serum and whole blood samples, MeMed BV is poised to become an indispensable tool in combating antibiotic misuse and enhancing patient care across diverse healthcare settings.
Brain Tumour Diagnosis Could Be Made Within Hours, Say Researchers
“A new method for diagnosing brain tumours could cut the time patients wait for treatments by weeks to hours and raise the possibility of novel types of therapy, researchers have said. According to the Brain Tumour Charity, about 740,000 people around the world are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year, around half of which are non-cancerous. Once a brain tumour is found, a sample is taken during surgery and cells are immediately studied under a microscope by pathologists, who can often identify the type of tumour. However, genetic testing helps to make or confirm the diagnosis.”

"It seems that more and more sources of microplastics are being discovered every day from tea bags to clothing and chewing gum. Since plastic doesn't biodegrade, it continues to break down into smaller and smaller particles. Microplastics are less than 5 millimeters long—about the size of a pencil eraser—and experts are increasingly concerned about how they can impact our health."
