Building Sustainable Solutions: The Leadership Role Of African Healthcare Professionals In Healthcare Entrepreneurship
"Our May healthcare leadership and innovation webinar is here, and we're incredibly excited to host Luke Barasa, head of country operations at Zipline, who will be sharing strategic insights into the leadership roles of healthcare professionals in building sustainable healthcare solutions as entrepreneurs and innovators. The healthcare entrepreneurship ecosystem in Africa is growing, and we believe healthcare professionals should be equipped with the proper knowledge, strategy and mentorship to excel in healthcare entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership."
State Of The World's Nursing 2025: Key Themes And Insights
"The World Health Organisation's State of the World's Nursing 2025 report (WHO, ICN et al.) provides a comprehensive, up-to-date analysis of the global nursing workforce. It emphasises five key domains: education, employment/jobs, leadership, service delivery, and emerging issues such as workforce well-being, migration, technology and climate change. These themes are interlinked with the strategic priorities of nursing/midwifery and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The report introduces new indicators (e.g. education capacity, advanced practice nursing, wages) and outlines policy priorities for 2026–2030. It calls on governments, educators, employers and nurses to use this evidence to strengthen the profession and advance UHC."
Is Your Child Too Young For A Phone? What Every Nigerian Parent Should Know
"These days, it's hard to go anywhere without seeing a child holding a phone or tablet—they may be watching cartoons on YouTube (Cocomelon), playing games, or even scrolling through TikTok. Many Nigerian parents give their children phones to keep them quiet, especially during chores, outings, or while they're at work (most of us are guilty). But is it safe? Are there any risks? Especially long-term developmental risks? The short answer is yes. There can be dangers when young children use phones and screens too early or too often. Let's break it down in simple terms and consider what you can do to protect your child."
i3 Backs 7 African Pharmacy Startups With Up To $225k: Vital Lessons For Healthtech Innovators In Africa
"Studies show up to 70% of initial medical consultations occur at pharmacies. Pharmacies are quickly becoming trusted sources of initial medical points of contact, not just in rural or developing places in Africa, but also in developed countries, where people can get quick support, especially for common symptoms that may not necessarily need a visit to the GP or a hospital. In many African communities, primary and community care is provided mainly through pharmacies or chemists manned by pharmacists or technicians. Some of these pharmacies or chemists have affiliated labs close by that offer basic laboratory services, such as testing for malaria parasites and other basic laboratory investigations. Most of the time, people in these communities do not need to visit hospitals because these pharmacies can safely and efficiently handle whatever basic medical care they need."
Our Editorial Focus—Going Forward!
Innovation, Leadership and Entrepreneurship in Healthcare!
We want to focus more on these central themes.
Healthcare professionals, especially in Africa, need a more in-depth understanding of how innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship contribute to improving healthcare on a larger scale.
We want to present the information in plain and straightforward language using every medium and style possible.
Lately, we have started placing more focus on video content.
We will still publish articles, posts and blogs about other healthcare-related topics, themes and issues, but our central focus will be innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship.
In addition, we want to smash the pedal on healthcare reporting!
We’ve discovered that there isn’t much reporting and journalism in the healthcare ecosystem in Africa.
Fintech reporting and journalism seem to be leading the way (obviously, and we all know why—money always rules).
There’s so much happening on the continent (and globally) that needs to be reported!
And reported in a way that people would enjoy, not with the rigid language we usually see in big media.
Language we all can understand, especially healthcare professionals and, of course, the general public.
Yes, we know.
It takes a lot of work and resources to actually do meaningful work in media, reporting and journalism and that’s why we’ve decided to call for partnerships and you know sponsorships to help us do the work we love doing, including training healthcare reporters, writers and journalists, investing in the technology needed to amplify our reach and the right talents to help tell better stories!
If you feel you’re that person or organisation, kindly reach out to us, and we will collaborate to create something that works.

Interesting Finds And What We Are Reading
How AI Can Improve Health For Everyone, Everywhere
"As a doctor and Google's Chief Health Officer, I believe AI has the potential to transform the health of people on a planetary scale akin to the discovery of penicillin. If developed boldly and responsibly, AI stands to be a powerful force for health equity, improving outcomes for everyone, everywhere. Already, AI has enabled people to tackle big, societal challenges — from advancing medical research to improving the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic processes and health information quality. Across Google, we are deploying AI in our products to help people in everyday moments. That might look like someone accessing mental health resources on Search, finding a match for a skin condition with Google Lens, getting useful health insights about irregular heart rhythms or powering our most accurate heart rate tracking on Fitbit. We have teams moving our research from the bench to the bedside to democratize access to health across some of the world's most critical diseases by applying AI to breast and colorectal cancer screening and chest X-ray imaging."
2 Major Lifestyle Changes Can Drastically Reduce Your Microplastics Exposure
"It seems that more and more sources of microplastics are being discovered every day from tea bags to clothing and chewing gum. Since plastic doesn't biodegrade, it continues to break down into smaller and smaller particles. Microplastics are less than 5 millimeters long—about the size of a pencil eraser—and experts are increasingly concerned about how they can impact our health. According to recent research, the plastics industry utilizes over 16,000 chemicals in its products. Over a quarter of those have been deemed hazardous to human health and the environment. Those chemicals include highly toxic agents that can disrupt the endocrine and nervous systems, and could potentially lead to cancer."
Listeria Outbreak Sickens At Least 10 In California And Nevada And The FDA Is Investigating Fresh & Ready Foods
"At least 10 people in the U.S. have been sickened in a listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat food products, and a producer is voluntarily recalling several products, federal officials said. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Saturday that federal, state and local officials are investigating the outbreak linked to foods produced by Fresh & Ready Foods LLC of San Fernando, California. The FDA says the 10 people who fell ill were in California and Nevada, and required hospitalization."
