The Early Parenthood Puzzle: How Babylogger Fits The Pieces Together
"Parenthood can be challenging, especially for new working-class parents venturing into this experience without prior knowledge, experience, or support. While numerous parenting applications claim to simplify the early parenting journey, many, unfortunately, contribute to the stress with poor user experiences and interfaces. Innovation is not just about creating new things; it often involves examining and improving existing solutions. We can create something better by drawing on our experiences and considering user feedback. The founders of Babylogger realised that baby monitoring applications could be enhanced to make life easier for parents, particularly new ones who are balancing work and other commitments. Babylogger emerged from the deep desire to solve a real problem, ultimately evolving into a technology that helps thousands of other parents. How is Baby Logger turning personal frustration into tangible support for new families?"
Is Cannabis Truly Harmless Just Because It's Natural? New Research Suggests Otherwise
"With growing legalisation and normalisation, cannabis often gets a free pass in public discussions. It's natural, widely used, and socially accepted in many parts of the world. But new findings from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus are challenging that relaxed narrative—especially when it comes to the impact of cannabis on the brain. A recent study published in JAMA Network Open has shown that heavy lifetime cannabis use is linked to reduced brain activity, particularly in areas that control working memory, decision-making, and emotional processing."

Ethiopia Reaches 15.3 Million Children With Novel Oral Polio Vaccine, Surpassing Target
"Throughout the campaign, WHO, working closely with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute and UNICEF, played a pivotal role in ensuring the campaign success. From pre-campaign preparations, such as resource mobilization and the Ttraining of Trainers (ToT) for more than 90health workers, to real-time monitoring using tools like the Open Data Kit (ODK) - an open-source suite of tools designed for data collection in resource-constrained environment, contributing significantly to the campaign's logistical and operational effectiveness."
Congo: Innovative Tools To Reduce Maternal Mortality
"Congo is intensifying efforts to reduce maternal mortality by introducing innovative tools, including the labour monitoring guide. Also known as the partogram, this is used to monitor the well-being of both mother and baby during active labour. In use in the Republic of the Congo since 1993, the partogram supports decision-making in the event of complications, and helps reduce avoidable risks and deaths. In 2022, a simplified version was rolled out to 12 health districts, making it more accessible and easier for maternity staff to use."
Earthquake Pushes Myanmar's Health System To Verge Of Collapse
"On March 28th, devastating earthquakes shook central Myanmar. With a mainshock of 7.7 magnitude and aftershocks up to 6.7, this event is the most significant earthquake series to strike Myanmar since 1912. The earthquake levelled several towns and villages, killing more than 3,500 and injuring 5,000 as of this writing. Another 210 remain missing. At least three hospitals have reportedly collapsed, including one in Mandalay that fell "like waffle sheets crumbling" under the strain of the tremors. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared that health workers in the affected areas have been overwhelmed by the number of patients requiring urgent medical attention."
Africa's Quiet Response to U.S. Realignment Of Foreign Aid
"The consequences of the Donald Trump administration's decision to decimate U.S. foreign assistance for Africa are not hard to find. Global health professionals have forecast soaring numbers of malaria, tuberculosis, and polio infections; more acute and fatal cases of malnutrition; more HIV-related deaths; and rising maternal and child mortality—and that is just in the global health space the United States long dominated. Programs to fight corruption, improve food security, prevent radicalisation, expand access to power, and combat wildlife trafficking have also disappeared. Yet African leaders are notably not sounding the alarm, at least not loudly. To the extent that they have publicly addressed the abrupt U.S. policy change, remarks have been understated rather than alarmist. Given the life and death issues at stake, downplaying the implications seems counterintuitive."
Blueprint To Close The Women’s Health Gap: How To Improve Lives And Economies For All
"Closing the women’s health gap: A $1 trillion opportunity to improve lives and economies, published in 2024 by the World Economic Forum (the Forum) in collaboration with the McKinsey Health Institute (MHI), reported that the women’s health gap correlates with women living in poor health for 25 percent more of their lives than men do. Closing the women’s health gap could yield 75 million disability-adjusted life years annually—the equivalent of adding seven healthy days per year per woman—and unlock $1 trillion in annual global GDP by 2040. Now is the time for stakeholders to address drivers of the gap and improve the lives of women, communities, and economies around the world."
